The JV Buccaneers & JV Monarchs opened their seasons with a hard fought double overtime basketball game on Tuesday night in Michael Jordan Gymnasium (Yes, the home high school and gym that the legend played in...the gym has been renovated but contains Jordan memorabilia in the lobby-see below)

The Monarchs got behind early but were able to slowly catch up at the half. The second half was a back and forth scoring game with neither team getting much of a lead over one another but the exciting play ended tied in regulation play 60-60...a higher scoring game than any of the other three games being played that night!

The 1st 4 minute OT exhibited the same close competition ending tied again 69-69.

The 2nd OT was just as exciting but this time provided a Laney victory edging a 78-76 win.

The hard play, hustle and the desire to win by both teams was exhibited throughout their season opener. 

Yes, there were the usual first game mistakes by the players, the officials and perhaps a few decisions by the coaches and even a few spectators that they all wished they had back...but hey, that's the name of the game and you work to improve on your mistakes for the next competition!
