Monarch Volleyball Earns 1st 3A Win At White Oak 3-1; JVs Win 2-0

GREENVILLE – Noah Sandy and Cade Anderson each had a goal and an assist as Jacksonville’s soccer team remained undefeated with a 3-1 nonconference victory at D.H. Conley on Thursday night.

Christian Jones added a goal for the Cardinals, who are now 8-0.

“Three different people scored. Every night it is somebody different,” JHS coach Dave Miller said. “It’s fun to watch. We move the ball quickly, get three to four passes and we get in and create chances. We try to play at a quicker rate and change the point of attack.”

Stephen Cosner made 6 saves for the Cardinals, who scored the game’s first three goals.

Richlands 4, White Oak 2: Zachary Spalding had a goal and an assist to help Richlands defeat White Oak in a nonconference match. Sifa Wainaina, Carson Schmitt and Miszter Burt also scored for the Wildcats (4-5). Alex Mueller had a goal and an assist while Josiah Davis had a goal for the Vikings (4-5-1).

Gramercy Christian 5, Jacksonville Christian 4: Jacksonville Christian’s Steven Mantlo scored 3 goals, but it wasn’t enough as the Conquerors suffered their first defeat at the hands of Gramercy Christian. Gramercy’s Joey Hardin scored the game-winner on a penalty kick with about three minutes left. JCA fell to 7-1 overall and 1-1.

VOLLEYBALL Jacksonville 3, Havelock 0: Lauren Wand had 17 assists and 4 kills while Claire Kellum had 15 kills as Jacksonville earned a Coastal 3-A Conference win over Havelock. The scores were 25-19, 25-14, 25-17. Jayda Hunter added 6 kills for the Cardinals (5-4, 1-1). The Rams fell to 1-7, 0-2.

East Duplin 3, James Kenan 0: Rachel Brown had 12 assists to lead East Duplin to an East Central 2-A Conference win over James Kenan. The scores were 25-14, 25-15, 25-9. Georgia Whaley added 4 kills for the Panthers (7-3, 4-1).

Richlands 3, Pender 0: Corryn Barnes had 12 kills while Kamryn Devita added 21 assists to lead Richlands to a Coastal 8 1-A/2-A Conference victory over Pender. The scores were 25-21, 25-22, 25-22. Kiki Kornegay added 6 kills, Morgan Ervin had 5 for the Wildcats (7-5, 3-2). Pender is now 4-7, 2-3.

Croatan 3, Lejeune 0: Croatan moved to 6-6 overall and 3-2 in the Coastal 8 1-A/2-A Conference with a win over Lejeune, which fell to 0-9, 0-5. The scores were 25-11, 25-16, 25-20.

East Carteret 3, Southwest 0:

Southwest lost at East Carteret in Coastal 8 1-A/2-A Conference play. The scores were 25-15, 25-12, 25-6. Southwest fell to 1-9, 1-3 while the Mariners moved to 3-4, 1-3.

West Carteret 3, Swansboro 0:

Swansboro played tough with West Carteret, but ultimately dropped the Coastal 3-A Conference match to the Patriots. The scores were 25-17, 26-24, 25-22. Danayah Cantoral had 5 kills for the Pirates (6-4, 1-1). West carteret moved to 9-1, 2-0.

Northside 3, White Oak 1:

Northside earned its second consecutive victory with a Coastal 3-A Conference win at White Oak. Northside won 25-23, 25-19, 21-25, 25-17. The Monarchs (2-9, 1-1) were led by Leia Cabradillia’s 22 digs, 17 digs from Maya Stanley and 15 from Laury Villarreal. The Vikings (2-6, 1-1) play host to Dixon on Monday.

TENNIS East Duplin 9, James Kenan 0:

East Duplin earned its fourth East Central 2-A Conference victory in as many matches as the Panthers downed James Kenan. Sabrina Sanchez-Knott won at No. 3 singles without dropping a game while Ashton Ballard at No. 4, Leigha Byrd at No. 5 and Brittney Jones at No. 6 all won after dropping just one game.
