FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Northside sophomore Caressa Johnson helped the Monarchs to three wins last week to up their record to 4-1 – matching their win total for all of last year. The 15-year-old Johnson had 7 aces and 5 kills in a 3-0 win at Southwest, 8 aces in a 3-0 win at East Carteret and 13 kills in a 3-2 win at home over Richlands.

Talk about going 3-0 last week.

“With my team and how we work I feel we did good, especially the Richlands game going to the fifth set. It was very hard because we get down so far and it’s hard to come back up. Working together and making sure we played smart and did everything that could help us win really helped us.”

How’d you feel you played individually?

“I learned a lot. Being aggressive, staying aggressive, is really what helped me with my hitting, my serves, playing smart and doing everything I could do to help my team get a point.”

Great start – what’s been the key?

“Our communication, our energy, is what’s giving us those wins. Like I said, when we get down the points start to fall and we just lost after that most of the time. So I think having the energy and talking to one another and just staying hyped the whole game is what really takes us really far.”

How good can this team be?

“We can be very good if we just do everything we’ve been doing. We could really be good.”

What’s your favorite color?

“My favorite color is purple because I just think it’s a very calm color. My room’s purple, everything that I have is purple. I love it.”

Favorite television show?

“My favorite TV show right now would be … probably ‘Spongbob, Squarepants’ because I like things like that, cartoons.”
